Game Dev Story ($4.99) is the best small management game, and Pocket City 2 ($4.99) is the pick for city building, with no microtransactions or long wait times. If you want free, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch, AdVenture Capitalist and Idle Miner Tycoon are the big names, but all three come with ads and in-app purchases.

Two kinds of tycoon game #
“Tycoon” covers two quite different kinds of game on mobile:
- Sim tycoons give you hands-on control. You place rides, hire staff, set prices and watch the results. RollerCoaster Tycoon, Game Dev Story and Pocket City 2 work this way.
- Idle tycoons automate most of it. You buy businesses or stations that earn on their own, upgrade them, and eventually reset for a permanent bonus. AdVenture Capitalist and Idle Miner Tycoon are the best known.

The best tycoon games on mobile #
1. RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic #
Atari’s mobile version combines the original RollerCoaster Tycoon with its sequel. You design coasters, lay out parks, keep guests happy and manage the money, with hundreds of ride and coaster types to build. The Wacky Worlds, Time Twister and Toolkit expansions are sold separately as in-app purchases.
Wrong for: five-minute sessions. It’s a full park sim that rewards long, thoughtful play.
2. Game Dev Story #
Kairosoft’s classic has you running a small game company and chasing a million-selling hit. You hire staff, train them, change their professions and try genre and theme combinations that sell. Eventually you can build your own console. It’s $4.99 and rated 4+, and an Apple Arcade version called Game Dev Story+ adds Game Center support.
Wrong for: players who want modern graphics. It’s pixel art in the old Kairosoft style, which is part of its charm.
3. Pocket City 2 #
A 3D city builder where you lay out roads, zones, landmarks and special buildings, then drop your avatar into the streets to explore. You can buy a house, host events and survive disasters. The developer says there are no microtransactions or long wait times, with everything earned through play.
Wrong for: younger kids by rating. It’s rated 9+.
4. Cafe Master Story #
Another Kairosoft management game, this time a coffee shop. You serve a wide range of drinks, create combo meals and expand to new locations. At $6.99 it’s the priciest pick here, but it’s a complete game. Kairosoft also sells Cafeteria Nipponica ($4.99), a restaurant version, with a free-to-play edition called Cafeteria Nipponica SP.
Wrong for: anyone who’s played several Kairosoft games already. The formula is familiar across them.
5. RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch #
The free-to-play take on the series. You build a 3D park and draw coasters full of loops, rolls, corkscrews and dives, then trade items with friends. It has more than 10 million downloads on Google Play.
Wrong for: fans of the classic depth. It’s lighter than Classic, and Google Play lists both ads and in-app purchases.
6. AdVenture Capitalist #
The idle tycoon that many players start with. You go from a lemonade stand to a business empire, hiring managers to run each business and attracting Angel Investors whose bonuses carry through resets.
Wrong for: offline play. The listing says it requires an internet connection, and it has ads and in-app purchases, including a paid ad-removal pass.
7. Idle Miner Tycoon #
Run a gold mine, hire managers to automate each part of it, and collect idle cash even while offline. It shows more than 100 million downloads on Google Play.
Wrong for: anyone wary of spending pressure. Google Play lists in-app purchases including random items, and it’s rated 12+ on the App Store.
8. Idle Theme Park - Tycoon Game #
An idle take on the theme park. You grow a small park into a major attraction with roller coasters and Ferris wheels, hire staff, manage budgets and run marketing campaigns. Codigames’ listing says you can save your progress to the cloud and recover it on a new device, which many idle games don’t offer.
Wrong for: players who want to design rides themselves. It’s about growing numbers, not building coasters.
9. Good Pizza, Great Pizza #
A small-business sim more than a tycoon empire. You fill orders for more than 80 customers, upgrade your equipment, and earn enough to keep the shop open while a rival pizzeria competes with you. If food businesses are what draw you, our best baking games list has more.
Wrong for: ad-averse players. Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases.
10. Bunny Bakery #
Bunny Bakery is an idle bakery tycoon with a cozy twist. You tap a chef bunny for coins, buy ten stations from a Bread Stand to a Royal Bakery, double each one’s output with upgrades at 5, 25, 50, 100 and 200 owned, and prestige for Sparkle Stars that make every later run faster. It works offline, has no fail states and has no in-app purchases.
Wrong for: players who want to design a layout. There’s no building placement; it’s a clicker driven by menus and numbers. It’s also free with a banner ad and occasional full-screen ads at breaks.
